Clay started his agency career at industry giant J. Walter Thompson in Chicago and later honed his creative skills as senior art director at Schafer Condon Carter. His early creative experience included the full spectrum of media, from broadcast television and print to retail promotion and package design. In 1998, Clay brought his creative background to bear on the account side when he became director of client services at Plan B, a full-service start-up agency he co-founded.

Armed with a first-hand understanding of what it takes to produce smart and strategic creative advertising, Clay became a high-powered advocate for his clients’ success. In his role as agency principal, he works tirelessly alongside clients as a stakeholder in their success, taking on their most daunting business challenges, and pushing agency teams to produce groundbreaking solutions that drive client growth.

From spearheading the development of Volvo North America’s first true automated CRM program, to simplifying and rebranding a complex portfolio of Humana One insurance products, to producing breakthrough guerrilla marketing for European beer-maker Hacker-Pschorr, and driving the nationwide repositioning and launch of franchise fitness brand TITLE Boxing Club, Clay’s passion and enthusiasm have helped Plan B propel agency clients of all kinds to new heights.

Over the course of his 25+ year career in advertising, Clay has cultivated a keen ability to think outside of the box, always adhering to a sound marketing strategy and driving client growth through breakthrough creative solutions that often defy conventional thinking. Clay was recently a driving force behind a complete branding and marketing system overhaul for fitness equipment manufacturer Keiser, pushing the California-based company to capitalize on the untapped potential of its breakthrough technology via more focused and innovative image-driven marketing.

Clay is also a charismatic and dynamic presenter who is frequently called upon by clients to lead strategy sessions, deliver marketing presentations, or share industry insights as guest speaker. Prior to his career in advertising, Clay played college basketball with the Ball State Cardinals and once dunked over a monster truck.
